Food Commodities

Food commodities are raw or minimally processed agricultural products traded in bulk on global markets, typically standardized for quality and quantity. They include grains (wheat, rice, corn), legumes (soybeans, mung beans), oilseeds (canola, sunflower), dairy (milk powder, cheese), meats (beef, pork, poultry), sugar, coffee, cocoa, and spices. Prices are influenced by supply and demand, weather, geopolitics, and economic conditions. They’re traded on exchanges like the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, often as futures contracts. Mung beans, for instance, are a niche commodity in regions like Asia. Food commodities are critical for global food security, serving as staples or ingredients in processed foods.
